    • Individual I Touch

    • This is the I Touch apps I am using for the Reading Counts Quizzes. When students receive an 80 or higher they are able to pick out an app for thier I Touch. I have told the students that when they get 5 or more they will get an incentive. I have asked for suggestions. Student have suggested that for every 5 they get to take a day off of the Reading Zone. I am still thinking on that one. Other suggestions is a BEST ticket, the school incentive, or a piece of candy.

    • Rotation Chart

    • this is the rotation chart I created for the beginning of the year; I put velcro down the center of each piece of card stock, then had velcro strips with each student's name on it for all 3 of my classes to show their starting position in rotations for that week
    • Chair Pouch

    • My room is small and crowded.  Small group is held at the same table as three students' assigned seats.  The kids are very possessive of their books and other stuff.  I made pouches for the back of the chairs. I did not have them done before class started and the kids got in the habit of putting their books on the table.  Next year one of the first procedures the classes will be introduced to is where their books are put.  It will cut down on the arguments and clutter during rotations.  I saw some online for $25. each and I made them for less than $4.

  • I taught Read 180 for the first time this year, Stage B and really loved the program. It can be overwhelming at first but as you get to know all the resources and how to use them, everything you need to help students is right there. I suggest you get a mentor in your district that would be willing to show you the ins and outs of SAM as well as the resources that are at your fingertips. Taking the time to visit an existing Read 180 class with a seasoned teacher was well worth the time if your principal will release you for the day or 1/2 day. Also meeting during professional development days might be helpful as well. Enjoy your year!

  • I was just moved to a Read 180 position. I am so glad I found this group, because I know I am going to have a lot of questions! My training isn't until August, so I don't even know what to ask. I like being completely planned out, so its hard not fully knowing what the program is. Any tips/suggestions for a newbie?

  • There is a grading report in SAM and there are some discussions in the message board about this topic. Check it out-there are some great ideas there.
